Initium

A new beginning.

Soft capital advisory and a private circle — for people who have built something real, navigating what comes after.

Everyone plans the exit. Almost no one plans the morning after.

Nobody prepares you for the day the building stops. The company sells. The succession is signed. The number you spent decades chasing lands in the account — and within months, sometimes weeks, a different question arrives. Quieter than the others. Harder to say out loud.

Now what?

Your wealth manager doesn’t answer it. Your lawyer isn’t built for it. And the people closest to you — the ones who watched you build — are often the hardest ones to tell. Building was isolating. Nobody warns you that what comes after can be more so.

Initium exists for exactly this moment.

WHAT THIS IS

Initium is a private platform for founders, owners, and senior operators navigating the chapter after the climb. Soft capital advisory on one side. A genuine peer room on the other. Nothing else like it in between.

The timing is not incidental. Eighty trillion dollars of private wealth changes hands by 2040 — the largest transfer in history. But the money is only half the story. Capital, lifestyle, and identity are all moving at once, and the generation carrying them is asking questions their advisors were never trained to answer. Not where do I invest — but where do I live, what do I build next, and what does all of this do to the people I love?

Those questions sit between the financial advisor’s brief and the therapist’s couch — and belong to neither. We call it soft capital advisory: counsel on everything wealth touches that isn’t the money itself.

The client is the person, not the portfolio. That is where Initium lives. Private. Considered. Permanently small.

Paul Oberschneider — Founder

Paul built and exited one of Central and Eastern Europe’s largest integrated property businesses — thirty-five years, six countries, multiple capital cycles, sold in full ahead of the 2008 crisis. What followed the exit was the hardest chapter of his life, and the most formative. Initium is built from that chapter: the questions he faced, the room he needed and couldn’t find, and four decades inside a peer-support model he knows from the inside. He is Chairman of Hilltop Capital Partners and the author of Coming Clean: Confessions of an Entrepreneur.

Michela Hancock — Partner

Michela grew up inside one of the largest family-owned automotive businesses in America — succession, generational wealth, and family enterprise are not theories to her. They were the dinner table. She holds a psychology and clinical counselling degree from Johns Hopkins and served as Managing Director at Greystar, leading pan-European asset management and development at institutional scale. She co-leads the advisory — fluent in both the capital and the human dynamics underneath it. That combination is rarer than it should be.

SOFT CAPITAL ADVISORY

Succession, transition, and the human side of significant wealth.

Wealth arrives with questions no one on your payroll is built to answer. What happens to a family when the founder steps back and the gravity that held everything together shifts? What happens to a spouse — most often a woman — who finds herself suddenly responsible for wealth she was never prepared to manage? How do you hand capital to a generation that didn’t build it — without handing them the weight of it too? What does succession actually demand of the people inside it, once the lawyers have gone home?

Initium’s advisory works with a small number of founders, owners, and families on exactly these questions. The work spans:

We coordinate the professionals. We never manage the money.

The work is private and shaped around each situation. There is no programme, no template, no sixty-slide deck — and no minimum term. The work continues for as long as it is useful, and not a day longer.

The Circle

The conversation no one has when the climb is over.

Alongside the advisory sits the circle — a small, private community of people who have built something real and are navigating what comes after. Monthly conversations, hosted by Paul. No recordings, no observers, no audience.

We keep the rest off the front page deliberately. Members are known to each other inside the circle. Outside it, it does not exist.

If that makes you more curious rather than less, it is probably for you.

Who This Is For

This is not for you if you are still mid-build and hunting growth tactics, or you want a stage rather than a table.

The soft capital advisory is for you if you are navigating succession, a major transition, or the questions that follow a significant wealth event — and you want counsel from people who have lived it, not studied it.

The circle is for you if you have built something real, been through the exit or the transition — perhaps you wake up wondering who you are without the company — and want a room of genuine peers. Not a mastermind, not a networking group, not an audience.

This is not for you if you are still mid-build and hunting growth tactics, or you want a stage rather than a table.

Everything begins with a conversation.

The circle and the advisory are both by conversation. There is no application form. There is no pricing page. If that bothers you, this probably isn’t your room.
